Founders paid $348k to rank on leaderboards. Did AI notice?

I measured whether AI answer engines cite the companies that paid.

Does AI cite your site?

I ask an answer engine your category’s question and tell you whether it cites you, or who it recommends instead. Free with an account, 3 checks a day.

Result so far: 4 citations in 1285 probes for the companies on the boards. The control group, which paid for nothing, was cited 366 times in 3630 probes by the same questions.

The companies that paid

How I know the zero is real

The same questions, in the same probes, do find citations for established companies that never touched a board. The instrument works; for the boards there was nothing to find.

63 of the famous names were never cited either

The control group exposed something on the side: most household names were not cited once for their own category. Being the biggest brand is not the same as being the answer.

Read this before quoting it

  • This is sampling: no engine exposes “was I cited” as an API. I ask the questions myself and record what comes back.
  • Correlation is not causation. The boards did not make anyone less citable; the money simply bought a different thing (clicks for a day) than the thing that matters (being the answer).
  • A company at zero is not doomed. It means this engine, these questions, this week. The index re-runs weekly; the series is the signal.
  • Every question, the matching rules, and the raw probes are public: methodology. Repeat it and disagree with me.
